Everyman Theatre

Everyman TheatreEveryman open to everybody!

Liverpool's new Everyman is continuing its pioneering reputation by becoming the first theatre in the North West to be open to everybody – through the installation of a 'bigger and better' accessible toilet.

The new Changing Places toilet- supplied and installed by Manchester-based Closomat compliments the venue's six other accessible toilets throughout the building, and results from in-depth consultation with disabled and access groups in the region.

Conveniently located by the theatre Bistro, the Changing Places assisted, accessible toilet gives users who need the help of a carer more space and additional equipment including a hoist, height adjustable washbasin and height adjustable changing bench.

To further optimise its suitability for as many people as possible, Everyman further specified the toilet to be a Closomat Palma Vita automatic shower (wash and dry) unit. The Palma Vita looks like, and can be used as, a conventional WC with the added benefit of in-built washing and drying. So users or their carers do not have to manually cleanse with toilet paper, increasing the user's independence and dignity, and hygiene for all involved.

"The theatre already has a pioneering reputation; the new Everyman will offer a new world of possibility," explained Dominic Beaumont, Everyman press officer. "We wanted the Everyman to be as accessible as it possibly could be, hence why we included the Changing Places toilet, and installed equipment that made it of a higher specification than the standard."

Over 500 Changing Places toilets are now open across the UK, the majority of which have been supplied by Closomat. The company is unique in being able to offer, in-house, design advice, supply, install, commissioning and ongoing service/maintenance, backed up by inhouse project management of a Changing Places toilet or hygiene room. Closomat has used its expertise in the field to produce a white paper on Changing Places toilet provision in the healthcare sector, available for download on its website
